Representative Lewis Announces Retirement

Friends, after 10 years serving the citizens of House District 18, I have decided not to seek a 6th term as your State Representative. I began my life in public service at the age of 18 when I enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving my 3-year enlistment term, I joined the National Guard where I served 2 more years. I then began my 40-year career in law enforcement in 1972 and retired in 2012. I was then elected as Mayor in Silverton and was re-elected to a 2nd term. Shortly thereafter, I was appointed to the State Legislature in early 2017 and have since been elected to 4 additional terms.

After more than 55 years in public service, I have decided it is time to retire and enjoy my remaining years with some travel and spending time with my best friend and wife, Pat, along with our grown children and their families now including 5 grandchildren. I arrived at the decision in mid-February of this year after months of deliberation and discussions with family. My decision was announced that same week in my District newsletter.

It has been an honor serving the citizens of Oregon. I am proud of my service in the Legislature, particularly in the areas of public safety and serving our military veterans.

I have endorsed Bryan Starr’s candidacy as the next State Representative for the District. You will be hearing more about him in the coming weeks leading up to the May primary.

Again, I thank you for the support you have given me and the great honor of having served you these past 10 years.

Rick
